Alan Haverty | Head of Automation

👋 I'm Alan Haverty & I've spent my career as a software engineer, from co-founding a startup in the consumer space to building mobile products across finance, travel, health, retail and property management before joining Kota.

What do you do at Kota?

I lead automation at Kota, building the tools and systems that take manual, repetitive work off our teams' plates. A lot of that is automating the back-and-forth with insurance and pension providers, like quote generation and paperwork, so our team can spend less time on manual processes and more time on the things that actually need a human.

What's the best thing about working for Kota?

I find it genuinely fulfilling to work on projects that simplify complex financial products, like health insurance and pensions, and make them more accessible to everyone. We put a lot of effort into building services that adapt to each person's situation rather than making them jump through frustrating hoops. I'm also glad to be working with such a strong team, alongside a lot of talented people who've come from other startups and industries.

What is the biggest problem you want to solve within Kota?

I'd love to help simplify some of the more old-fashioned parts of this industry. One big challenge we're tackling is making health and pension enrollment simpler for people at every stage of life, while also helping educate them along the way. Another challenge is making our service genuinely useful for each person's individual situation, today, getting properly set up often means relying heavily on an advisor, if you're lucky enough to have access to one at all.
